The Holidays

The holidays simply are a sucky time to blog. Too much going on right now and I am never in town anyway.

Short story shorter...heading to Casper for the New Year. Back next week.

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Make sure your computers are all upgraded for Y2K05!

The Grind

Last year I was smart and took a whole week off of work to enjoy the holidays. This year, what with the Vegas Bowl and all I could only manage a couple days here and there.

The office is bare over here. Maybe half of the people are here and believe me the motivation is not its highest. I think next year I would like to pull a highschool or a college and just take 2 weeks off to do mostly nothing.

That or go to Germany. SWEEEEET!

I'm Back!

But only for a few days. Thursday after lunch I will head up to Casper to see all those people seeing as I missed them all during my Vegas trip.

GREAT TIME! The Cowboy game. Wow, what can I say really? That was one of the most exciting times of my life when we pulled that off. There were sooo many Wyoming fans there it was unbelievable. We went to a pep rally at the Golden Nugget on Wednesday night. Joe Glenn (the head coach) got up and sang to the over 3000 people there. It was fantastic.

At the tailgate the next night there were tons of people as well. My Mom and I spent a good amount of time talking to Pete and Al Simpson. Then we head to the game, which was freezing cold but well worth it. A UCLA fan sat next to me and was really getting into it when UCLA was up. People were throwing ice at him, but frankly he was asking for it.

When we won we all ran down onto the field and celebrated. God it was great!

As for the rest of the trip? Well that's a story in itself! I'll fill you in on that later!

Off to Vegas

This morning I head out to the airport and fly to Vegas for the bowl game/Christmas.

It really is 2 vacations in 1 seeing as the first 2 days will be all about football and the second 2 will be all about Vegas. Its gonna be sweet.

Anyway, have a great Christmas everyone and I'll see you back here next Monday!

Wow, it really is Christmas

I can't believe it. How does this happen every year about this time. One minute I am sitting around doing nothing, and the next minute I am sitting around doing nothing at is is Christmas.

Most of the gifts coming my way already have, and the ones I am getting for people have mostly been given out. My mom and I decided to avoid many gifts to eachother and have a little more fun in Vegas instead this year. That is fine by me, but I think it will make for a little bit of a letdown on Christmas.

Oh well, we will make up for it by seeing a big show. I know most of you are already on Christmas break, so really enjoy that. I leave Wednesday morning, so just a couple of boring days of work first. WOOHOO!

Heeeere comes the weekend!

Hey kids. I must say work was much much better this week, other than a very odd conversation I had with the prez of the company. I am still puzzled by it. He says I need to be "neat."

Neat. This confuses me. I asked if he thought my work was sloppy, "No." Is my work station unsatisfactory? "No." Do I dress inappropriately? "No." Maybe he just wanted to mess with my mind and see how I would react. IT'S FREAKING ME OUT MAN!

I won't be working this weekend...WOOHOO! I will, however, be doing some shopping seeing as that hasn't really happened yet. I love the weekend before Christmas, it is the only time of year that men far outnumber women. Why plan ahead? Experience tells me that my instincts are right the first time, so why would I give myself time to question them? I say go and get the first thing that comes to mind, buy it, buy a Christmas bag and tissue to package it (avoiding wrapping), and hand it over.

And with that, have a great weekend...and to those that will be gone till Christmas, have a good one of those as well.

Another blog dies...

...not mine of course. I mean, where would you go without my drab boring posts from day to day? Well, I suppose most of the blogs, but how many are uniquely Nick? That's right, just a few.

So as an avid reader of many blogs for the past year and a half, I was sad to read that Sloth is leaving. She follows in the footsteps of the MadPony's, who love em or hate em, made some excellent posts. There are not many people out there who just write goodly. Who may piss you off, but end up saying something profound that you question if you should even have a blog.

Quite frankly, there are just too many like mine out there. Talking about going to the grocery store and going to work. In order to make mine unique I hope that more people become interesting and leave mine as the one that stands out.

Mostly, I am just sad that another on of my favorite sites...the ones I read everyday...is gone.

Denver Botanic Gardens

Tonight I had the pleasure of going to the Denver Botanic Gardens. It really is a beautiful place. But what made it great this evening was that they had put thousands upon thousands of lights all throughout the trees and bushes.

It truly was a beautiful sight to behold.

Despite...

...all of the chances for this weekend to be a bust, it really ended pretty nice.

Friday night we went to the company christmas party, and I must say that it was a great time. They set us up playing all sorts of casino games. I stuck to blackjack for the evening. We were playing to earn raffle tickets and at the end of the night they gave out $1000 in prizes. Well I thought they would have a ton of stuff and most everyone would win. Nope, it was five $200 gift certificates, and little ole Nick won one!

So that was a happy thing. Saturday I spent the better part of my day at the office trying to finish up my project. I think I did, but I also noticed a few things I left out when I got home. We went shopping Saturday trying to spend the gift certificate, but sadly the Henckel knife of my dreams was not in stock, so I saved it for another day.

Sunday I finished out my project and relaxed. Well deserved and much needed. Hopefully this week I will get on that Christmas card thing too. Have good ones everyone. My project goes out tomorrow, so wish me luck and hopefully life gets back to its usual drudgery by Tuesday!

The Truth About Shrimp

Inspired by Sloth's post I give you this proof.

Here is an excerpt.

Arthropods include a variety of animals such as insects, crabs, lobsters, shrimp, horseshoe crabs, spiders, scorpions, and extinct varieties such as trilobites. Arthropods are characterized by a segmented differentiated body (head, thorax, and tail), usually chitinous (protein + carbohydrate) exoskeleton, well developed digestive, circulatory, respiratory, and nervous systems, eyes, and jointed appendages on each body segment.

There you have it people. Like I have said for years you are all eating sea beetles.

Sickos.

Pardon my french...

Oh my God! The shit is just pooring and pooring. Forget about it hitting the fan, we are talking full on firehose of shit. 2 hoses pointed at me from opposite sides with "You Can't Do That on Television" buckets of shit plopping from the top.

Say goodbye weekend.

No, I don't think you get it.

Quality Control. I understand why we have it, I understand why we need it and I get why I was wrong.

But you don't have to be so mean about it.

"Look, I'm not saying these things to be condescending. This is so you know what needs to be fixed. No no no, I don't want to hear why you did it the way you did even if it is a good explanation."

Did you know you raise your eyebrows when you tell me how wrong it is? Did you know you talk to me like your 5 yr old? That's condescending. Not what you are saying, but the way you are expressing it to me.

-Sigh. Sorry kids, overworked that past few days. Night!

Too Frumpy For Them

I randomly found a new blog that I like that randomly found me (much like the infamous Sloth).

Anyway, I want to link this person because she is involved in stuff I was involved in when I was in highschool. She has posts talking about her Forensics competitions and singing and whatnot.

So many blogs out there are kids under 18...and seeing as I don't have any of them linked, this is the one that will be put up there.

Enjoy.

Had a nice one.

Ended up having a really nice weekend. The candy making was 2 for 3. The fudge turned out great, as did the candied pecans...less can be said of the cookies. It is not that I didn't make the dough right, it is that I put the peppermint dough on the outside instead of the chocolate...making for cookies that just kind of fell apart. Very yummy though!

Saturday I went up to Ft. Collins to visit Spence and Jenny. A good time all around to be sure. The pokes won on a last second shot in basketball, and at the same time I found out that the internet radio is a good 30 seconds behind real time. See my friend called me to celebrate and I was listening to the end figuring us for a loss (down by 1 with 1 second left). Kinda blew the surprise, but I was still happy.

This week I have the company Christmas party, and for those who remember last year, I really love these things. (I tried to link it, but that was early blogger and it doesn't like to link by the day.) Anyway, the typically blow, but hopefully this year will be different because we aren't inviting clients.

Have great weeks guys and gals. Me? Gonna pass out now.

My first time...

...making Christmas Candy. Sickos.

So I am going to try and make some Christmas candy Friday afternoon. I have recipes lined out for peppermint chocolate sugar cookies, See's fudge and sugar spiced pecans. None of them looked very hard to do, nor did they require kitchen stuff that I have yet to obtain. I think it will be fun, if not hilarious.

So yup, sticking around Denver this weekend, well other than heading to Ft. Collins on Saturday...hopefully.

Wish me luck on the candy though. It really could get quite interesting. Have a good weekend everyone!

Grampa's First Game

There is no doubt that I am a poke fan. Have been since as long as I can remember. Living most of his life in Wyoming my Grandpa was a fan as well, but I found out just this past summer that in all his years he had never been to a game. Not one.

Well I couldn't let that stand, so I hauled him and Liz to a game this fall. I bought the tickets and got him a hat. Worth every penny too.
